Here is a list of engaging and entertaining female-friendly books. These books are written by women and have strong female leads. Some explore relationships between women but are not romance.

Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See

They write to each other in a secret language used only by women in Hunan about their lives, loves and children, but their friendship is torn apart by a family secret.

 

 

Bossypants by Tina Fey

In this insightful, self- deprecating memoir, Tina Fey explores her comedy career from its beginnings, through her years in SNL and to her creation of 30 Rock. Fey is inspirational as a successful, creative woman who “has itall”. The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi This thought provoking graphic novel tells the story of Satrapi’s girlhood in Tehran after the Islamic Revolution. This coming-of-age story appeals to readers who are interested in intercultural and politically charged narratives as well as graphic novel fans.
