One Fish Two Fish ... A World Ocean Day's Wish

Herring Gut Learning Center and Jackson Memorial Library will sponsor two programs to celebrate World Ocean Day. The programs, both called One Fish Two Fish ... A World Ocean Day's Wish, will celebrate the ocean and the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss' book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."

The first event, an after-school program for children from St. George, will be held Monday, June 7 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The second program, for preschool-age children, will be held Wednesday, June 9 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Both programs will be held at Jackson Memorial Library.

Participants will learn about the diversity of fish and creatures in the ocean through playing games, exploring a touch tank, and enjoying a reading of the book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" by a mystery guest from the community. Children will also design their own fish for a special ocean day mural.

Registration for the programs is required. Permission slips are also required for the after-school program and are available at the St. George School and Jackson Memorial Library.

This marks the fifth year Herring Gut Learning Center and Jackson Memorial Library have joined together to celebrate World Ocean Day. Herring Gut Learning Center is dedicated to educating students, teachers and the public about Maine's marine resources through aquaculture, environmental studies and research opportunities. Jackson Memorial Library operates with the purpose of making available books, other media and educational opportunities to meet the needs of the community.
