Thanks for a Wonder-ful Launch (video included)

Though it was a dreary and blowy day, the library was aglow with over 250 happy faces at the launch on October 25th, celebrating the new library for St George.

The day’s success is due to many hands belonging to staff and volunteers, however two volunteers stand out as deserving special mention. Waino Kangas and Chip Knowlton built the trebuchet to launch pumpkins at the celebration.  The After School Catapult Club helped - thank you kids! - but there were many, many hours when Waino and Chip were there drilling, sawing, up on ladders and improving on the design of the trebuchet, which launched a pumpkin in a high and amazing arc, landing at the far end of the Library’s field. We’d also like to acknowledge the businesses and groups who donated their time or materials to make the event a success: The Ridge Review and St George Grange Monday Night Group provided live music, Port Clyde Fresh Catch donated fish for the chowder, Green Bean Catering donated their time to prepare and serve a hot lunch, St George Fire Department loaned JML their gas grill, Hannafords for the pumpkins and paper goods, and Camden Printing for posters.

And thank you to all who came to celebrate community! We hope to see you back in the library soon, and often.
