Book Talk: To End All Wars

On Monday April 16th at 3 PM there will be a book talk here at the library about To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion 1912-1918 by Adam Hochschild. A scholar chosen by the Maine Humanities Council will facilitate the discussion.

Hochshild gives us the first history of WWI showcasing the war’s critics as much as its heroes and victims. Just like the two wars American soldiers have been fighting over the last decade which created far more problems than they have solved, the tragic history of World War I is a reminder that no war is over as quickly and easily as drum-beaters claim it will be—and that almost all wars have enormous unforeseen consequences. To End All Wars finally calls attention to the people at the time who knew WWI was an unmitigated catastrophe and acted on their convictions.

Copies of the book can be picked up at the Jackson Memorial Library.  This program is sponsored by the Machiah Center and the Maine Humanities Council.
