What defines a library?

The Public Library Association posted an article about what defines a library in these times.  It discusses how books are our "brand," but an ebook is not the same as a physical book, and it is hard for libraries to deal with this change.  At this point, it is easier for most people to buy an ebook rather than check one out from their local library. A quote from the article:

Support Our Pre-K

The Jackson Memorial Library will be hosting a Barefoot Books fundraiser to support our Pre-K program.  Stop by the library between September 24 and October 2 to see the beautiful books.  There is a Facebook event page here. Thank you so much to Dena's Barefoot Book Nook for helping us with this fundraiser.

A New Year!

Pre-K started again this week!  We are excited to welcome back Kella River as our teacher, as well as the three and four year olds that are enrolled in the program.  You can see a few photos of the happy children here.

Ahoy, mateys!

Talk Like a Pirate Day is coming up on September 19th and the Jackson Memorial Library plans to celebrate!  Come for a pirate-themed story time in the morning and activities and crafts after school.  Feel free to don your best pirate garb and join in the celebration!  More information on Talk Like a Pirate Day can be found here.

Michele Nettles, a certified reflexologist will present a program on Wednesday, August 29th at 7:00 in the library. She will be discussing the benefits of reflexology, ways to reduce stress and improve one's overall health. Ms. Nettles owns Good For The Sole Reflexology in Spruce Head.
